Hooray for caregivers

The library hosted the Brooklyn New School Parents as Learning Partners meeting today with this presentation including: information about the library, research influencing library practices, plans for the future,  making literacy part of family life and supporting their child in selecting a “just right” book (also in handout).

Please also see links with book reviews and other literacy resources on the updated Resources – for Parents page.

Caregivers are invited to join us in fundraising efforts, recommend books that the library should have, offer suggestions/resources for the website, encourage students to write book reviews, and come by and visit during Open Library (3rd Thursday at 3:30) or just after school.

Feel free to leave a comment!

BNS/BCS Book Hook Blogging and Raffle

Book Hook Raffle ticket

Though everyone who wrote a book hook is a champion we offer our congratulations to

kindergartener, Thor,

for winning our first Book Hook Blog raffle!  Every student from either school, who submits a book hook, has a chance to win a prize, which is to choose a book from three (the books depend on the age of the winner).  We need more book reviews for books that are new and may not be very well known.  Please submit your Book Hook now!

Here is a link to the Book Hook Form, which has some helpful hints.  Please submit a book hook that will inspire other students to read new books or books that they may not have known about.  Please drop your form off at the library to be included in the blog and raffle.

Author visit – Christopher Grant

Christopher Grant read to BCS students from his novel, Teenie during his December visit and spent time discussing the book and his writing process.  Students rushed to sign out the library copies of Teenie and there is a waitlist for the new novel, convincingly written about a teenage girl with talent, ambition, honor and humor.  We are all looking forward to his next book, a science fiction, though his publishers should let him make a sequel to Teenie!
