Good book news!

Brooklyn New School/Brooklyn Collaborative School Library was awarded a New Yorkers Read Grant (big thanks to NYC Department of Education Office of Library Services).   The award will provide new non-fiction books and more book sets for book clubs!  The program will be officially rolling out in September.  Keep your eyes peeled.

Speaking of book clubs, a new book club for 4th graders will be starting on Wednesday, April 4th in library @ 11:30  for introducing a favorite book or character,  and choosing our first read!

Hunger Games is hot! and violent…

For those who have read Hunger Games, you may have been waiting for the movie for a long time!  Today is opening day, and hype is likely to go on for a while.

If anyone is still wondering about Hunger Games, here is a New York Times article: Peer Pressure: How About, Like, Fighting to Death? which talks about why it is hot, and possibly difficult for younger students.

For those who are looking for other similar fabulous books, or completely different fabulous books, ask Susan.   If you can suggest a great adventure/survival book, please comment!

We have love!

Valentine’s Day may be over for some, but at the Brooklyn New School and Brooklyn Collaborative School library our love for books is still showing.  We celebrated in style by recognizing some of our favorite books on the spaces both outside and inside the library.   Feel free to comment on a book you love if you didn’t get a chance already, or better yet, write a Book Hook!

Thanks to parent, Amanda Clarke, for creating this.  We heart volunteers who are inspired to decorate our bulletin boards!
