13 01 2013

Jessica Millstone of Common Sense Media will be speaking tomorrow evening on “Raising Kids in Our 24/7 Connected Culture.”

The program will provide an overview of today’s digital media landscape—what’s new about it and how it has influenced the way kids learn, socialize, and play—for better and for worse. The talk offers expert guidance on how parents can help kids to make responsible, respectful, and safe choices in the digital world and beyond. Topics covered include:  Media Usage Statistics, Opportunities & Challenges and  Rules for the Road

Jessica Millstone (a BFS parent) has spent the past fifteen years thinking, writing, and teaching about the ways new technologies and digital media can transform learning, both at home and at school. She creates outstanding teacher education programs, professional learning workshops for parents and teachers, and online modules on a variety of education- and technology-related topics. Her current research, supported by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, is focused on the use of digital and video games in elementary and middle school classrooms.
